Amelia Park Ice Arena is a sports complex in Westfield, MA that provides positive recreational opportunities for our community.
Amelia Park Ice Arena was financed by the late Westfield, MA philanthropist, Albert Ferst, in memory of his wife, Amelia. Throughout her lifetime, "Millie's" intent was to give back to the community, especially the youth. Mr. Ferst shared her ideals.
The Albert & Amelia Ferst Operating Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit entity, was formed in 1998, with the expressed purpose of building a facility to provide positive recreational opportunities for the youth and families of Westfield, MA & the Pioneer Valley.
In 2000, the ice arena that Millie envisioned several years earlier became a reality. Unfortunately, Millie's untimely death, never allowed her to see one of her generous acts come to fruition. A one acre memorial garden was built in her honor in the Amelia Park complex.
Our facility is 47,000 square feet with an indoor NHL sized skating rink & an outdoor dek/roller hockey rink, a concessions stand, 4 locker rooms, and a skate rental area.
Our programs include ice hockey, dek/roller hockey, ice skating, skating lessons, camps & clinics, Annual Sled Hockey Tournament & host youth hockey & memorial hockey tournaments; host wedding & graduations in our garden.
Amelia Park Ice Arena is committed to giving back to the community by: offering blocks of ice to non-profit children related organizations for fundraising or recognition; offering meeting rooms to area non-profits to hold meetings & functions; hosting the New England Invitational Sled Hockey (NEISHT) tournament annually;and host FREE musical concerts every summer in our garden. Our rink also hosts blood drives, bone marrow registry drives, and donation drives to assist the community.
The New England Invitational Sled Hockey Tournament (NEISHT) is a one-of-a-kind event for our area as 16 teams of physically challenged athletes from across the United States & Canada compete in sled (or sledge) hockey (junior & adult divisions) for the Amelia's Cup Championship Trophy. The rink fundraises throughout the year, so that there are no costs to the participants or fans during the tournament. A Cookout on Friday, a BBQ on Sunday, t-shirts, medals & ice time are all picked up by the rink and their generous donors. Proceeds from this touranment also support the area's sled hockey programs.
