Amherst Survival Center provides food, clothing, healthcare & community by volunteers to our neighbors from Hampshire & Franklin counties.

Thank you for visiting the Amherst Survival Center's Valley Gives Day page! The Center is a warm, safe space, open to all.

On this Valley Gives Day, while Congress debates whether or not to reduce funding for SNAP (food stamps), your contribution will be used to support our Emergency Food Pantry and help us to resume distributing fresh milk to our 600 Food Pantry participants (families and individuals, adults and children), which includes 400 children.

We need a Milk Fund because our Food Pantry is stocked with foods that are donated by stores, individuals and community food drives or purchased at a discount from the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts. We don’t have any fresh milk donors, as the Food Bank provides only Ultra Heat Treated (UHT) shelf-stable boxed milk. Meanwhile, participants in our Food Pantry regularly ask for fresh milk. Milk contains essential nutrients for bone, muscle and heart health including calcium, vitamin D, potassium and magnesium.

We hope to partner with the local dairy cooperative, Our Family Farms, to stock our Pantry with fresh low-fat milk. We're excited that the Amherst Survival Center Milk Fund will support local agriculture and local farmers.

Supporting the Amherst Survival Center
This is a great time of year to support the Center by donating through our online gift catalog. The catalog describes the many programs and services we offer. Gifts to our catalog are extremely important: they provide 25% of our operating budget each year! You can view the 2013 online catalog here: http://amherstsurvival.org/gift-catalog-2013-2014/
