STRINGS FOR KIDS- an Artspace program partnered with the Greenfield Public Schools - free violin and cello instruction & instruments.

Strings for Kids (SFK), now in its 6th year, has served over 500 students (grades 3- 8) with free violin and cello lessons since the program began in 2008. Artspace Community Arts Center and the Greenfield Public Schools are partners in the SFK program. Artspace provides the string teachers and instruments for the program that includes weekly in-school group lessons, summer and school vacation string intensives, weekly ensembles, recitals and an annual String Celebration concert that includes young string players from all around Franklin County. The Greenfield Public Schools (GPS) contribute about one third of the cost of the program and provide free space for concerts. Artspace raises the rest of the funds through individual and local business donations, fundraisers and grants needed to keep the program operating.

The Strings for Kids program reinforces the discipline needed for students to excel in their academic classes. Seventy percent of the students in GPS receive help from SNAP- Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. SFK offers these students a life long love of music and appreciation of the arts. With additional help from the Pioneer Valley Symphony (PVS), our young string players and their families have been attending PVS concerts. In many cases, going to a PVS concert is the first time students and families have experienced a concert by a live orchestra.

The Strings for Kids program not only enriches the lives of the students and their families, but also enriches the local schools and community.

Artspace Community Arts Center, Greenfield Public Schools and the Pioneer Valley Symphony Orchestra have been working together to establish and fund a county youth orchestra. The PVSYO will make its concert debut on December 14, 2013, 7 pm at the Greenfield Middle School. 57% of the youth orchestra members have been in Artspace's programs in the schools and/or private lessons at Artspace.

Strings for Kids - Powerful and life changing. A really worthy cause! Give generously!

THANK YOU!
