Double Edge is more than a theatre, it is a center for discovery: the possibility of performance to express profound emotions and ideas; the potential of the individual to seamlessly integrate art and life; the influence of the natural world on the discipline of art-making; and the power inherent in a community that has embraced its creativity to define its identity.

Double Edge Theatre was founded thirty years ago with a vision of a theatre that awakened life. Its pathways cut against the conventions of its time: rigorous training, an actor-led process, multi-year research and artistic exchange were core activities in pursuit of the extraordinary. Today, that vision continues and has blossomed into the Farm Center: our Rural/ International Center for Performance, Collaboration, and Research, where we host artists, students, and community exchange through the practice of ‘living culture.’

The Double Edge Farm Center is committed to enhancing the quality of life for people of Western Massachusetts. Your contribution helps make possible the strong base of programs we offer:

• Rural Initiative A network of partnerships with businesses and artists in the area to increase financial and community support for local organizations.
• Training Programs Double Edge offers its dynamic methods in theatre training to hundreds of students each year, and provides scholarships to those in need.
• Education Double Edge partners with local schools and colleges, inspiring students through active participation in performances, workshops and volunteerism.
• International Exchange Double Edge regularly performs on international tours and recruits international artists to the area for residencies. to the area for long-term or short-term visits. Double Edge is the only American theatre to be recognized by UNESCO as part of the International Year for the Rapprochement of Cultures.

The passion for this work runs deep in Double Edge. Supporting the work of the ensemble, growing a living culture that is local, national and international, pursuing a new model of artistic sustainability, engaging in community collaboration, training the next generations of emerging artists, and elevating the place of creativity in our lives is an honor and a joy. We have demonstrated what is possible and we aim to forge ahead in the coming years to actualize the great potential of the Theatre and the Farm Center.
