Friends of Northampton Trails and Greenways (FNTG) supports the development of rail trails in the City of Northampton and surrounding towns.
Trails and greenways provide both recreation and transportation opportunities for area residents as well as for tourists.
FNTG works diligently and in cooperation with city and town departments, other groups, and area businesses to:
- Promote planning, proper use, development, and care of the trails
- Raise and expend funds to support trail design, maintenance, and improvements
- Assist in trail maintenance
- Assist in the marketing of the trails.
Since our founding in 2006, FNTG has raised more than $25,000 to help support trail design, construction, and improvements.
In 2013 we created and distributed widely a new map of the trail system, helped purchase a needed easement along the planned trail from Leeds to Williamsburg, and assisted in the design of information kiosks at trailheads and other high-visibility areas.
In 2014 we will join with trail supporters from Williamsburg in support of the City of Northamjpton and the Town of Williamsburg in the next stage of the design and construction of a trail connecting the villages of Leeds and Haydenville.
And we will continue to work toward bridging the gap between the trails on both sides of the active rail line paralleling King Street, including construction of a pedestrian/bicycle tunnel underneath the rail bed.
Your donations to FNTG will help us continue to make a difference for the dreaming, planning, building, and improving of the walking and biking trial in our wonderful community.
