In 1987, Mountain Park closed and efforts to preserve a piece of its history was spearheaded by John Hickey. Over the next 6years, The Friends of the Holyoke Merry-Go-Round raised $1,000,000 to purchase the carousel and another 1million to house it in its current location at Holyoke's Heritage State Park to be a part of the revitalization of the downtown area. The Holyoke Merry-Go-Round opened its doors on Dec. 7, 1993. Over the past 19 years, the Holyoke Merry-Go-Round has delighted children of all ages as they come to ride this magnificent machine and create memories that will last a lifetime.
