JGS is a 100 year strong system of health care and residential services for our community's seniors, serving people of all faith
Your 2013 Valley Gives donation will help us improve the lives of those we serve by supporting the implementation of our new JGS Music & Memory Program for people suffering with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
Music can renew lives that are struggling to escape the isolation that Dementia can bring. Familiar music has been shown to help uplift spirits, re-awaken the brain, re-connect with fond memories, reduce anxiety and induce a sense of calm. As part of the program, iPods will be purchased. Personalized playlists, created specifically for each resident will be downloaded. This new and innovative way to provide therapy, with customized playlists, is another example of JGS’ dedication to provide patient centered care, where the needs of each individual patient are at the center of all decision making. Your donation will also help JGS provide training and certification to staff members.
Stop by JGS on Valley Gives Day between 3:00-6:30 and make your donation in person, while visiting the opening of our Voices & Visions Art Exhibit, showcasing artwork by the people we serve and students in the Life Skills program at Longmeadow High School, who visit the Home on a weekly basis. Our senior and student artists have interpreted the beautiful poster series created by the Harold Grinspoon Foundation, whose intent is to inspire conversation, instill pride, and spark creativity among diverse audiences and ages. Come and be a part of the intergenerational conversation, and while you are here support our Music & Memory Program with your gift to Valley Gives!
Founded in 1912, JGS has grown over the past century into a full continuum of health care and residential services serving Western MA. We are now a family of five entities: a 200-bed nursing home (Julian J. Leavitt Family Jewish Nursing Home); a 64 unit assisted living facility (Ruth’s House); an adult day health care center (Wernick); a homecare and hospice organization (Spectrum) and we offer subsidized housing for independent seniors (Genesis House). Our services are available to people of all faiths, while we maintain our deep roots in Jewish culture and values.
