To enrich the lives of older adults. Applewood, Amherst, Loomis House, Holyoke, Loomis Village, South Hadley and Reeds Landing, Springfield.

Perhaps you have heard the story on NPR or seen the video on YouTube* about the Nursing Home resident, Henry, and his response to the music of Cab Calloway on an iPod? The elderly gentleman, with Alzheimer’s disease, sat in his chair fairly unresponsive until someone gave him an iPod loaded with some of the favorite music he enjoyed in his younger years. The music transformed Henry. After listening for a few minutes, he began to speak clearly, sang an entire song with enough feeling to draw tears, and articulated what the experience meant to him.

At the Loomis House Nursing Center this fall, the staff is launching an iPod project for residents of the Nursing Center. This kind of simple but revolutionary therapy is at the heart of person-centered philosophy at Applewood and the Loomis Communities. This philosophy values choice, dignity, respect, self-determination and purposeful living, at every level of service and care.

For over 100 years, Loomis Communities has provided lifestyle and healthcare options for older adults. Whether large or small, your gift is important. As you plan your end of the year giving, we are writing to ask you to join us in making a gift in support of person-centered service and care.

Thank you in advance for your support!
