The Palmer Public Library is a dynamic community center that provides the public access to information and technology for fun & learning!
Committed to its role as a community center, the Palmer Public Library provides a gathering space and a variety of materials to meet the personal, educational and cultural needs of its patrons in a safe and comfortable setting. In partnership with other local organizations, the library encourages and supports a love of reading and life-long learning with attention to the changing needs of the community.
During these continued difficult economic times, the need for a strong public library has never been greater. The Palmer Public Library not only provides materials such as books and movies to the community, it also provides access to necessities for people in times of need. When Monson, MA, was hit by a devastating tornado in June of 2011, the Library did everything possible to aid our neighbors.
All library fines paid during that month were donated to the Monson Free Library, which had been damaged in the storm. The Library was filled with tornado victims, who needed to charge their phones, use the internet and find security in a warm and welcoming place after such a a devastating event. Our Library became a place of refuge once again after a freak October snowstorm left many residents of Palmer and nearby towns without power for more than a week. The Library rose to the challenge again, providing outstanding service, information, Internet access and a comfortable environment.
The Palmer Public Library has been struggling under the constraints of a limited budget since 2008, but despite severe funding cutbacks, we strive to remain a dynamic community center that provides free access to information and technology for the residents of Palmer and surrounding towns.
