Beaver Brook Bridge -- Future Trail Stop in Leeds

Friends of Northampton Trails and Greenways (FNTG) supports the development of rail trails in the City of Northampton and surrounding towns.

Trails and greenways provide both recreation and transportation opportunities for area residents as well as for tourists.

FNTG works in cooperation with city and town departments, other groups, and area businesses to:

  • Promote planning, proper use, development, and care of the trails
  • Raise and expend funds to support trail design, maintenance, and improvements
  • Assist in trail maintenance
  • Assist in the marketing of the trails

Since our founding in 2006, FNTG has raised more than $30,000 to help support trail design, construction, and improvements.

In 2014 we joined with trail supporters from Williamsburg in assisting the City of Northampton and the Town of Williamsburg in obtaining grants for the next stage of the design and construction of a multi-use trail connecting the villages of Leeds and Haydenville.

Also with assistance from FNTG, everything is now in place for the construction of a pedestrian/bicycle tunnel underneath the rail bed paralleling King Street, connecting the Norwottuck Trail leading to Hadley and Amherst with the Northampton-Easthampton trail network. The tunnel is expected to be be installed sometime in 2015.

In 2015 we expect to assist the City of Northampton in raising funds for completing the Leeds-Haydenville trail to the Williamsburg line.

And, although it may take many years to complete, 2015 will see the design of a multi-use trail within what is known as the Rocky Hill Greenway, connecting Route 66 in the Rocky Hill area to the Manhan Trail near the bridge across Route 10.

Your donations to FNTG will help us continue to make a difference for the dreaming, planning, building, and improving of the walking and biking trails in our wonderful community. All new donors will automatically become Members of FNTG, and will receive our newsletter, invitations to special events, and bulletins about new developments along the trails. Please join us today.
