Since 1982, The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts has been feeding our neighbors in need and leading the community to end hunger.
The face of hunger in our community is one we might recognize. In Western Massachusetts alone, there are more than 200,000 individuals struggling with food insecurity—a number that has more than doubled in the past five years. Many of our neighbors who are seeking food assistance have jobs, raise families, work toward education and struggle with health problems. Many families that are experiencing food insecurity are forced to make crucial choices to keep food on the table, such as paying for food, or paying for housing, utilities or vital medication.
Through a number of programs, The Food Bank is working to bring healthy food to those throughout our region who are struggling to make ends meet. Our Mobile Food Bank program has grown to ten distribution sites throughout Western Massachusetts, and provided more than 362,000 pounds of fresh, healthy food to 40,000 individuals last year. Our Brown Bag: Food For Elders program continues to provide a bag of groceries to approximately 6,000 seniors each month, with foods specifically selected to meet their special dietary requirements. Overall, The Food Bank distributed more than 8.1 million pounds of food to Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden and Hampshire counties over the past 12 months.
Your Valley Gives donations will allow us continue to provide nutritious food to our family, friends, and neighbors in the community who are effected by hunger. It will take all of us, working together, to put an end to hunger. With your help, we can make that happen.
